Our Precious Night Sky

August 4 - September 27, 2026
The night sky speaks to people across cultures and across time. Our earliest stories and songs often refer to the night sky, whose constellations served as trusted maps for epic voyages by land and sea. So, too, do they frame our own, personal journeys.

In this exhibit, 4 artists - a fabric artist, a bead artist, an astrophotographer and a poet - converge to share their deep attachment to the beauties of the starry firmament and encourage you to reconnect with the stars above. It is their profound wish that you will find joy and inspiration as you ponder Our Precious Night Sky.

Featured Artists

Margaret Nazon (Bead Artist)
A Gwich’in artist from Tsiigehtchic, Northwest Territories, Margaret transforms her lifelong fascination with the stars into vibrant beadwork inspired by galaxies, nebulae, and the wonders of the cosmos.

Evelyn Martin (Fabric Artist)
A retired art teacher, Evelyn creates richly layered textile landscapes inspired by the night sky, auroras, and moonlit journeys, using fabric, fibres, beads, and thread to capture the beauty of the night.

Brian Martin (Astrophotographer)
A retired astronomer and professor, Brian photographs Alberta’s night skies to reveal the colour, wonder, and fragility of our celestial landscape through carefully crafted astrophotography.

Anna Marie Sewell (Poet)
Edmonton’s fourth Poet Laureate (2011-13), Anna Marie Sewell is a Mi’gmaq/Anishinaabe/Polish poet, cultural educator, and collaborator whose work explores connections between culture, language, storytelling, and place.
